Bangalore: Doping Test - Ashwini Akkunji Appeals against Ban

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jan 6: Promising athlete, Ashwini Akkunji from Udupi district, who was on a record-breaking spree before being held guilty of failing the dope test, has appealed against the punishment meted out to her. A ban of one year had been placed on Ashwini and some other athletes after the samples collected from them were found to be containing banned substances.

Ashwini said three other athletes have also appealed against this punishment. The appeal has been submitted to National Anti-doping Agency, which had imposed the above punishment on the athletes.

The main argument, on the basis of which the athletes including Ashwini have appealed, is that the inquiry report has held that the athletes were not at fault in the episode. They have wondered as to how they can be held guilty and punished for something for which they were not at fault.
