Karkala, Jan 6: “Revolutionaries driven by Maoist ideals will never succeed in Karnataka as long as the sun and moon continue to shine. Naxals have still time to surrender to the police. I invite them to try to lead a good life by joining the mainstream. If they fail to make use of this opportunity, they will expose themselves to legal action,” said state director general of police, Shankar Bidari.

He was speaking to reporters during his visit to Hebri police station in the taluk on Thursday January 5. He felt that the package offered by the government to surrendering naxals is quite lucrative, and wanted the naxals to shun their violent ways and use this opportunity to join the mainstream.

Bidari said that his department has got detailed information about how Sadashiva Gowda, whom the naxals are thought to have treated as a police informer, was killed. “It will be wrong to brand Gowda as a police informer. He is a common citizen of the state. It is the duty of every citizen to pass information about illegal activities to police. We have taken his murder case in all seriousness. I am aware that lack of proper information sources and hostile terrain of Western Ghats have been hindering police action,” he revealed.

Bidari visited the family of slain Sadashiva Gowda on the occasion, and handed over the compensation of three lac rupees sanctioned by the government to his mother, Gopi. He advised people to live fearlessly, have respect about the police personnel and system, and make full use of equal opportunity provided to everyone.

Additional director general of police (internal security), Harshvardhan Raju, western range inspector general of police, Pratap Reddy, Anti Naxal Force commander (ANF), Alok Kumar, Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police (SP), Labhu Ram, Udupi SP, Dr Ravikumar, ANF SP, Vasudev Murty, Karkala deputy SP, Santosh Kumar, ANF commandant, V S Nayak, Karkala circle inspector, Vijaya Prasad, Hebri station sub-inspector of police, Santosh Shetty, and others were present.

SP, Dr Ravikumar, welcomed. Additional SP, Venkateshappa, proposed vote of thanks.
