Kaup, Jan 31: In a shocking burglary at a residence in Udyavar Guddiyangadi, miscreants broke open the house lock and decamped with gold ornaments weighing 116 sovereigns, along with silver items and cash worth lacs of rupees. The incident came to light on the night of January 29.
Reshma, a resident of Udyavar village, had gone to her husband's house in Parkala with her daughter. Upon returning, she discovered the burglary. Reshma had been residing on the first floor of a house owned by Chandrakant at Guddiyangadi for the past 15 years, while the house owner lived on the ground floor. The owner had left for Mumbai on January 14, and Reshma, along with her daughter, had gone to her husband's place on January 25.
When she returned home at around 5:30 pm on January 29, she found the main door open. On inspecting the bedroom, she discovered that three cupboards had been broken open, and valuables, including 116 sovereigns of gold jewellery, about 100 grams of silver deity ornaments, and Rs 30,000 in cash, were missing.
According to Reshma’s complaint filed at the Kaup police station, the burglars had forcibly broken the main door lock and gained entry into the house between January 25 and January 29. They had also broken the bedroom door lock before looting the valuables kept inside the cupboards.
Additional superintendent of police H Siddalingappa, DySP Aravind Kalagujji, circle inspector Jayashree Mane, SI Tejasvi, along with the canine squad, fingerprint experts, and forensic team, visited the site and conducted an investigation.
