Beltangady, Jan 31: In yet another alarming incident, a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus plying on the Dharmasthala-Kolli route came to a halt after one of its wheels detached while in motion near Kashibettu TB Cross-Kuntini Road, close to Ujire.
This incident follows a recent accident near Somantadka in Munda, where a KSRTC bus lost control and veered onto a roadside drain.
The lack of adequate KSRTC buses has been causing difficulties for students, leading to protests organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Ujire on Wednesday, demanding additional buses and better services. The latest mishap, where the bus wheel completely detached, has once again raised concerns over the poor maintenance of these buses.
With the national highway still under construction, pothole-ridden roads and reckless driving at high speeds are contributing to the frequent breakdown of buses. Additionally, poorly maintained buses are often assigned to rural areas, and the limited number of buses has resulted in a lack of proper upkeep. Overcrowding has further worsened the situation, leading to frequent breakdowns and leaving students and passengers stranded, causing widespread frustration among commuters.
