Belagavi, Feb 2: Another pregnant woman has died at the Belagavi-based BIMs Hospital.

Gangavva Godakundri (31), a resident of Karadiguddi village in Belagavi taluk, is the deceased.

Gangavva was admitted to BIMs Hospital on January 28 and delivered a baby on the night of January 30. On January 31, doctors informed her family that her blood pressure was critically low and her condition was serious.

Shortly after, Gangavva passed away. Her family has accused the hospital doctors of negligence, claiming that her death could have been avoided with proper treatment. "If the doctors had treated her properly when her condition was serious, my sister would have survived. The doctors are responsible for her death," alleged Shankarappa, Gangavva's brother. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the APMC Police Station in Belagavi.

29 maternal deaths reported in the district

Last year, 29 pregnant women and 322 infants died in Belagavi district, according to district health officials. The deaths were attributed to factors such as lack of timely medical care, excessive bleeding, and alleged medical negligence.
