Mangalore, Jan 8: There has been a number of attacks on the Christian community in the district and it seems to be a pre-planned and well organized incident.Therefore the concerned authorities and the state government must take a proper action against the culprits and the actual people who are reason behind this illegal activity, complained the leaders of the Christian community.
On the occasion of Christmas celebration, the members of New Life were attacked here in Maiyndhagiri, Kodikeri near Kulai and also the prayer hall was trespassed during Hebran assembly, Haleyangadi. A petition was submitted to the state minority commission here in DC’s office. The petition included the narration of two trespasses occurred in two places.
Here in the residence of Fr William Menezes, public relation officer of Mangalore Diocese, the community urged to protect the Christian community from all the mishaps, attacks on churches, preplanned assaults, and serial violences. The Government should take enough actions to prevent such actions. Hence security to the minorities should be given, they insisted.
Walter Maben of Karnataka Mission Network questioned the commission saying there is no single case which is succeeded to find the culprit and neither proper action is taken against the people who are caught in such incidents. For about 6 years, the Christian community is facing such pre-planned serial attacks. The Government is been promising the security and protection but the attacks are still on. The Government should give security to the minorities and protect holy places, he urged.
The case has been registered about the incidents which took place in Haleyanagadi and Surathkal. We have also collected information from the police. The police have already arrested few of the culprits. There is search going on to trace the rest of the people behind this incident. The Government has taken measures to keep the minorities secure, opined Anwar Manippady, chairman of State minorities’ commission.
