Mangalore, Jan 9: The villagers joined together and visited Mulky police station in the taluk on Sunday January 8, to urge the policemen to arrest culprits connected with the murder of Lalita, an old lady from Kolachikambla here on November 18, 2011, at the earliest.

“Unidentified culprits committed theft at the house of the old woman, who was living alone, besides murdering her. It has been nearly two months since the incident, but the policemen have failed to make any headway in investigation. The investigation, which moved swiftly in the beginning, has failed to show any progress. As we have reasons to suspect that organized attempts are being made to close the case, we have come together to demand for action,” the villagers said.

They said that the villagers are now living under a cloud of fear and uncertainty after the above incident. They warned of organizing stronger forms of protest, if the department fails to apprehend the murderers within two weeks.

Mulky police sub-inspector, Sunil Patil, expressed confidence of finding out the accused and taking action against them soon.

Gurikar of the village, Umesh Poojary, Mulky town panchayat president, Shashikant Shetty, vice president, Yogeesh Kotian, chief officer, Harishchandra Salian, and several village leaders were present.
