Mangaluru, Feb 6: The launching ceremony of the Jerome and Iris Pinto Endowment was held on January 31 in the presence of the management, staff, alumni of St Aloysius Institutions, and the Pinto family and friends.
The children of late Jerome and late Iris Pinto of the ‘Rose Dale’ family have established an endowment for the education of needy students in St Aloysius Institutions and other projects under the Karnataka Jesuit Province. The proposed scholarships, supported by the endowment, are exclusively for students facing financial hardships.
In a ceremony presided over by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, provincial of the Karnataka Jesuit Province, the nine children of late Jerome and late Iris Pinto—Dr Thelma Sequeira, Dr Daphne Mathias, Dionysius M Pinto, Dr Audrey Pinto, Dr Allan P Pinto, Trevor A Pinto, Oscar A Pinto, Lloyd S Pinto, and Dr Errol R Pinto—handed over their contribution towards the noble cause of education.

The operating guidelines for the scholarship were read by Dr Errol R Pinto. Dr Errol Pinto and his brothers studied at St Aloysius Institutions, and their father, late Jerome Pinto, was a student of St Aloysius High School and College between 1911 and 1926.
During his speech, Fr Melwin J Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, thanked the Pinto family for their generous contribution. Fr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed to be University, felicitated the donors. Also present were Ms Shilpa Dsouza, institutional development officer, Dr Alwyn D'Sa, registrar of the college, and Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of the university.
