Srinagar, Jan 10 (IANS): Twenty-three passengers were injured, five of them seriously, when a bus slipped off a road and fell into a gorge in north Kashmir Tuesday.
"Twenty-three passengers were injured in the accident. Five of them have sustained serious injuries and have been brought to Srinagar for specialized treatment," a police officer said here.
The bus was travelling from Bandipora in north Kashmir to Srinagar when the driver lost control due to highly slippery road conditions. The vehicle rolled down into a gorge near Safapora town, 35 km from Srinagar.
"Extreme cold weather has resulted in a thin film of frozen ice on local roads which makes driving risky, especially in the mornings," said the police officer.
