Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 9: The St Anthony Shrine at Milagres Church in Mangaluru observed the fourth day of the novena preceding the annual relic feast of St Anthony of Padua on February 9. Fr Chethan Lobo, OFM Cap, editor of Sevak Konkani Monthly presided over the Eucharistic Mass, joined by Fr JB Crasta, director of St Anthony Charitable Institutions in Jeppu, and Fr Avinash Pais, assistant director of the ashram.

Fr Chethan’s sermon revolved around the theme, “The Eucharist: Spiritual Nourishment for the Pilgrims of Hope.” He highlighted how the Eucharist serves as the source and summit of Christian life, sustaining believers on their faith journey. Drawing from scripture and Church teachings, he emphasized that just as physical food nourishes the body, the Eucharist nourishes the soul, strengthening the faithful in times of trials and uncertainties. He urged the congregation to deepen their devotion to the Eucharist, allowing it to transform their lives and inspire them to become true witnesses of hope in the world.

Post-Mass, Fr Nelson Peris led the novena, specially remembering all youth. The Konkani choir, led by Padre Pio Choir Group, Bejai added a melodious dimension to the expressions of gratitude.

Active participation marked the third day of the ongoing novena, set to continue until February 15. The communal spirit was further heightened as attendees were treated to the sweet dish, Payasam.

The highlight of the upcoming festivities:

The main celebrant for the main festive Holy Mass on February 15, at 6 pm at Milagres Church Grounds will be Dr Duming Dias, bishop of Karwar. The theme for the feast is “Walk in the Footsteps of St Anthony, Embrace the Journey as Pilgrims of Hope.”

On the Feast Day, February 15, Mass in Konkani is scheduled at 6 and 9.30 am at St Anthony Shram Jeppu. The anticipation builds for a day of spiritual significance and community celebration.
