Red Ribbon Express Launched

New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS): The Red Ribbon Express train, which will ply across the country spreading awareness about HIV among the people, was flagged off Thursday from here.

The launch of the train, which is in its third phase, is an offshoot of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and National AIDS Control Programme (NACO).

It was initiated with the help of other ministries in 2007.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who flagged off the train, said HIV-affected people would benefit from the Red Ribbon Express.

On the lines of Jeevan Rekha Express, a mobile hospital train, the Red Ribbon Express (RRE) has seven coaches, including three exhibition coaches on HIV counselling and four coaches on NRHM.

"The renewed focus of the train this time is on youth. Sexual health information and counselling would be provided to youngsters," said union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
