Mangaluru, Feb 16: The traditional Thiruvailotsava Kambala, organized by the Thiruvailuguthu Sankupoonja-Devupoonja Jodukare Kambala Trust, was successfully held on February 15 at the Thiruvailuguthu Kambala field in front of Sri Amriteshwara Temple, Vamanjoor. The event, which began at 9:30 am, saw the participation of 170 pairs of buffaloes and concluded efficiently within a short span of time.

District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, assembly speaker U T Khader, Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, Congress leaders Padmaraj Poojary and Mithun Rai, along with several other dignitaries, attended the grand event.

Thiruvailuguthu Kambala was one of the fastest Kambalas to conclude in the previous season, finishing within 22.30 hours. The organizers had aimed to maintain the same efficiency this year, and with the cooperation of buffalo owners, handlers, racers, and referees, the event proceeded smoothly.

“The goal was to complete the races in the shortest possible time while ensuring a seamless experience for participants,” said Naveenchandra Alva, the founder of Thiruvailuguthu Kambala.

Thousands of spectators gathered to witness the thrilling races, cheering for the buffaloes and their handlers. The event upheld the region’s rich cultural heritage and showcased the spirit of traditional Kambala racing.
