Udupi, Feb 17: Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has appealed to the district police superintendent to allow for the traditional Tulunadu rituals to be conducted without any strict norms.
He led the delegation of BJP members and submitted a memorandum to Udupi district police superintendent Dr Arun K. The MLA stated “The Tulunadu rituals like Kambala, cock fight, Yakshagana, Nagamandala and Nemotsava are regarded as part of our culture. Due to the stringent rules by the district administration organising such an event has become much more difficult. It is our humble request to reconsider the rules formed and allow for the smooth organization of these rituals. As per the tradition in some places, the daivas are offered cocks which are used in cock fights, it is a part of culture and tradition. The devotees have conducted these celebrations in a very meaningful manner and they are connected with the people of Tulunadu on emotional grounds. Situation may arise of large scale protest if the district administration doesn’t allow for the smooth conducting of such traditional celebrations, he warned.
