Mangaluru: St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous) organises Annual Sports Day

Mangaluru, Feb 19: The students of St Ann’s College of Education gathered with great fervour and enthusiasm to witness the annual Sports Day 2024-25 to showcase exceptional talent and teamwork.

The programme began by invoking God’s blessings. Professor Dr Flosy D’Souza welcomed Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza AC Principal, Sr Zeena Pereira AC, vice principal, chief guest Dr Suresh Kumar T, physical director (Rtd), St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), Mangaluru and Sr M Smitha AC, joint secretary and superior of St Ann’s convent, Mangaluru was the president.

The meet commenced with a march past by the participating teams led by Madhusmitha, sports secretary and commanding leader Samanvitha with the cooperation of leaders of four houses. The chief guest Dr Suresh Kumar T hoisted the flag and declared the meet open and in address he spoke about the vital role of sports in ensuring both physical and mental well-being and true greatness of a sportsperson lies not just in winning but in active participation. He also mentioned that sports foster respect, discipline, and an improved quality of life. This was followed by various track and field events including 100, 200, 400 and 4X100 mtr race, shotput, discuss throw and long jump.

The principal congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of all the participants. The event concluded with a declaration of overall championship and individual championship. Madhusmitha bagged the individual championship. Yashaswini II BEd compered the event and Swasthi R Rai student president proposed vote of thanks. Dr Sharmila L Mascarenhas, Prathibha Linet D’Souza and Vilma Reena D’Souza coordinated the annual sports meet.

The Annual Sports Day was a resounding success, fostering a spirit of healthy competition, camaraderie and sportsmanship among student-teachers.
