Udaipur/Bengaluru, Feb 19: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday said that he would meet the union Jal Shakthi minister on February 25 to discuss issues pertaining to all irrigation projects in the state.
“The Union Jal Shakthi Minister has given time on February 25. I will discuss Mekedatu, Mahadayi and Upper Krishna project proposals and also seek release of announced funds for various irrigation projects. I am confident that the Centre will positively look into our requests,” he said while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the second All India State Water Resource Ministers’ meet.
Shivakumar said the conference is highlighting best practices in water resource management from various states. The key objective of this conference is conservation and recycling of water. State’s problems must be resolved without being looked at them with a political lens. The Centre must also resolve stalemates between riparian states.

“I have had a discussion with the Irrigation ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regarding utilising 30 TMC of water from Tungabhadra river. I will hold another round of discussions with them at Vijayawada again. All three riparian states must work out an amicable action plan for this project,” he said.
He said irrigation is a critical area of the country and water is essential for agriculture, drinking water and urbanization. It is imperative that the Union Jal Shakthi Ministry prepare clear guidelines and blue print for water usage in the country. Irrigation projects also need more grants,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who is also holding the Water Resources portfolio, held discussions with Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nirmala Rama Naidu and his Telangana counterpart Uttam Kumar Reddy on the proposal to have a parallel dam to Tungabhadra dam at Navali.
