Udupi, Feb 19: A 35-year-old man, Raghavendra from Kundapur met with a road accident on February 17 at 12.20 am. He was admitted to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, with severe injuries, but despite extensive medical efforts, his condition deteriorated. He was twice declared brain dead by a panel of expert doctors in accordance with the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994.
His family made the courageous decision to donate his viable organs, giving others a second chance at life.

Following the protocols of Jeevasarthakathe, SOTTO, Bengaluru, Raghavendra's liver and one kidney were sent to AJ Hospital, Mangaluru, while his lungs were sent to KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad, Telangana. Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, retained one kidney, corneas, and skin for registered patients awaiting transplantation.
Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, hailed the act of organ donation as a noble gesture and urged others to consider organ donation. He expressed gratitude to Raghavendra's family for their compassionate decision.
