Yenepoya Naturopathy & Yogic Science College inaugurates NSS annual special camp

Mangaluru, Feb 20: The department of youth empowerment & sports, Government of Karnataka, in collaboration with Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit I, conducting the NSS Special Camp 2025 from February 19 to 25 at Ambedkar Bhavana, Balepuni gram panchayat. The event aimed to foster youth empowerment, community engagement, and service-learning among students and the local community.

The inaugural programme commenced with Venkatesh P, PDO of Balepuni GP and assistant director of Ullal taluk panchayat, as the inaugurator. Sukanya Rai, president of Balepuni Panchayat, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was presided over by Dr Puneeth Raghavendra K R, principal of YNYSCH. Guest of honours Dr Ashwini S Shetty, NSS co-ordinator of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), and Krishna Moolya, director of Jana Shiksha Seva Trust.

The event was well-coordinated by the organizing committee, with Ajith K serving as the organizing secretary and NSS programme officer at YNYSCH. NSS leaders Ashith and Tejaswini, both IV BNYS students, actively participated in the organization and execution of the programme.

The programme commenced with an invocation, followed by a welcome address delivered by Ajith K. The dignitaries participated in the lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the enlightenment of knowledge and service. Venkatesh P delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in community service. Dr Ashwini S Shetty addressed the gathering as the guest of honor, highlighting the role of NSS in shaping responsible citizens. Sheena Shetty, ambassador of Swachh Abhiyan, spoke about the significance of cleanliness and sustainable development. Krishna Moolya, director of Jana Shiksha Seva Trust, shared insights into the impact of educational initiatives in rural communities.

Throughout the seven-day camp, various activities are conducted, including health awareness programmes, environmental conservation initiatives, cleanliness drives, and yoga sessions. NSS volunteers actively participated in social service tasks such as tree plantation, waste management awareness, and assisting local authorities in community projects. Special workshops were also held on leadership development, skill-building, and disaster management to equip students with practical knowledge and enhance their problem-solving abilities.

Dr Puneeth Raghavendra K R, in his presidential address, appreciated the efforts of NSS volunteers and encouraged them to continue their selfless service to society. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by NSS leader Ashith, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, organizers, and participants. The programme ended with the Shanthi Mantra, signifying peace and harmony.

The NSS special camp 2025 engaged students and community members in various activities, fostering social responsibility and holistic development. The event was a testament to the commitment of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and the NSS Unit I towards creating a positive impact on society. The overwhelming participation and enthusiasm of students, faculty, and local residents highlighted the success of the initiative and the collective efforts in making a meaningful contribution to the community.
