New Delhi, Feb 21: Less than a day after taking charge as Delhi’s first BJP Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta has locked horns with her predecessor, AAP’s Atishi, over governance and poll promises.
On Friday morning, Gupta lashed out at the AAP and Congress, questioning their criticism of her administration just a day into office. “They ruled for 13 and 15 years. Instead of reflecting on their failures, how can they judge us in one day?” she retorted.

Highlighting the clearance of Ayushman Bharat Yojana in her first cabinet meeting, Gupta said, “AAP had blocked this scheme. We have given Rs 10 lac health coverage to Delhiites on Day 1. They have no right to question us.”
The war of words escalated after Atishi accused the BJP of “deceiving Delhiites”, alleging the party had failed to deliver on its promise of Rs 2,500 cash assistance to women in the first cabinet meeting.
Atishi’s remarks come after the BJP’s landslide win in the February 5 elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats, a massive jump from its previous 11-seat tally. AAP, which dominated the past two polls, was reduced to 22 seats, while the Congress suffered another rout.
Gupta also hinted at major corruption revelations, announcing the tabling of 14 Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) reports exposing alleged scams in the AAP government.
With political tensions rising, the battle for Delhi’s governance is set to intensify in the coming days.
