Mangaluru, Feb 22: The department of Konkani, school of language and culture studies, St Aloysius University, Konkani Sangha and CASK jointly organized a workshop on wedding songs of Konkani Christian speakers ‘Konkani Vovio & Verse’ on February 21 at the University Auditorium to commemorate International Mother Language Day.
Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), symbolically inaugurated the programme. Ronald Gomes, president of CASK entertained the audience by singing Vovio and said that he is always ready to serve the mother language Konkani.

















This workshop was conducted by Sapna Crasta, an alumna of St Aloysius College, teacher and popular actress, through a demonstration of ‘Konkani Vovio & Verse’ to about 200 students.
‘Voviyo – Verse’ is an important culture among the Konkani Christian speakers, especially among the coastal Konkani folklorists. These wedding songs were brought with them by the Konkanis when they migrated from Goa, and even today these songs are alive in the wedding – rose tradition.
This programme was organized by the head of the Konkani department, Flora Castellino. Vilona D’Cunha compered the programme. Cultural secretary Ashelle Tellis welcomed the gathering. Anvita D’Cunha, editor of ‘Parjal’ magazine, proposed the vote of thanks.
