Guwahati, Feb 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a two-day visit to Assam, reaffirmed the rapid transformation of the Northeast under BJP rule, emphasizing that a once-neglected region is now thriving. Addressing a gathering at the Jhumoir dance programme at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, he declared himself the “brand ambassador” of Assam and the Northeast, symbolizing his government’s commitment to the region’s development.
PM Modi recalled his unique connection to Assam, being the only Prime Minister to have spent a night at Kaziranga National Park. He highlighted the government's recognition of Assamese heritage, including granting Classical Language status to Assamese and securing UNESCO World Heritage status for Charaideo Maidam. He also paid tribute to Assam’s legendary warrior Lachit Borphukan, ensuring his legacy receives national recognition through the installation of a 125-foot statue.

Stressing his government’s dedication to the welfare of tribal communities, PM Modi lauded the launch of Jana Jatiya Gaurav Divas to honor Scheduled Tribes. He also outlined several welfare measures, particularly for tea garden workers, including financial assistance for pregnant women, the establishment of over 100 model tea garden schools, and the construction of 350 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to boost healthcare.
The Prime Minister spoke of Assam’s bright future, highlighting its cultural resurgence and infrastructure development. He fondly recalled the record-breaking Bihu dance performance in 2023, where 11,500 artists made history, and expressed excitement for the Jhumoir dance event aiming to set another world record.
With over 60 ambassadors in attendance, the event underscored Assam’s growing international recognition. PM Modi praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the people of Assam for their dedication to cultural preservation, asserting that such grand showcases elevate the state’s pride on the global stage. His vision for Assam and the Northeast marks the beginning of a new era of prosperity and global prominence for the region.
