Malda, Feb 25: In a significant operation, West Bengal Police apprehended three individuals suspected to be illegal Bangladeshi immigrants with potential terrorist affiliations. The arrests occurred in the Bamangola area of Malda district, approximately 10 kilometers from the international border with Bangladesh.

Acting on specific intelligence, authorities intercepted the trio as they attempted to cross into India. During questioning, the suspects acknowledged their Bangladeshi origins and recent entry into Indian territory. However, their inconsistent responses regarding the purpose of their visit raised concerns about possible links to terrorist activities.

Given the gravity of the situation, Deputy Inspector General of Malda Range, Deep Narayan Mukhopadhyay, personally conducted interrogations at the Bamangola Police Station. While he refrained from discussing details with the media, the investigation is ongoing.

This incident underscores the heightened vigilance of security and intelligence agencies in the region, especially in light of recent crises in neighboring Bangladesh. Both state and central agencies have intensified monitoring of villages near the international border to prevent illegal crossings and potential security threats.

The arrested individuals have been taken into custody for further investigation, and authorities are working to ascertain the full extent of their activities and affiliations.
