Mangaluru, Feb 27: The historic Kavoor Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple will host the grand Ashtabandha Brahmakalashotsava from March 1 to 9. As part of the religious festivities, the reinstallation ceremony of the deity at the renovated sanctum sanctorum will take place on March 6 between 11:00 am and 12:00 noon, while the Brahmakalasha Abhisheka will be performed on March 9 between 8:10 am and 8:40 am, as announced by Ajit Kumar Rai Maladi, honorary president of the Brahmakalashotsava Committee, during a press meet.




Speaking on the significance of the event, he emphasized that religious rituals and sacred activities held at temples and shrines contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the people, protecting them from natural calamities and hardships. The Kavoor Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, known as a sacred center where religious rituals have been continuously performed, boasts a history spanning over 800 years. The temple serves as the presiding deity for seven villages, namely Kavoor, Bangrakulur, Panjimogaru, Padukodi, Kunjathbail, Marakada, and Padushedde-Jar. The temple underwent renovation in 1982, and over the years, several additions have been made, including the construction of a new wedding hall and Vasantha Mantapa in 1996, the Brahmaratha and Jalakada Kere in 2004, and the surrounding cloister and monolithic flagpole in 2009. The recent renovations include the restoration of the sanctum sanctorum, the construction of a new kitchen, dining hall, and assembly hall.
The religious ceremonies, led by Vedic scholar Brahmashree Kudupu Narasimha Tantri, will commence on March 1 and continue until March 9. Devotees and well-wishers have been urged to participate wholeheartedly in the reinstallation ceremony and the grand Brahmakalasha Abhisheka.
Meanwhile, Ramananda Bhandari, convener of the Horekanike Committee, informed that a procession of offerings (Horekanike) will be carried out on March 1 from various localities including Kuloor, Padukodi, Shantinagar, Gandhinagar, Atraybail, Kunjathbail, Marakada, Kavoor, Padushedde-Jar, Bondel, Pachchanadi, Padavinangady, Mary Hill, Konchady, and Mugrodi, followed by another Horekanike procession on March 2 at 4:00 pm from KHB Colony and Bondel.
The press meet was attended by the temple’s chief priest Vedamurthy Srinivas Bhat, executive officer Shweta Palli, Ashik Kumar Ballal, management committee president Mohan Prabhu, Avinash Naik Panjimogaruguthu, Deepak Poojari, Kishore Kumar, Harish Shetty, Sadashiva, Girija Bhandary, and other dignitaries.
