Panaji, Feb 28: The High Court has directed the cable operator’s association to clarify whether they are willing to deposit 10-20% of their outstanding dues to the government as a precondition for further consideration of their grievances.
The association had approached the High Court seeking relief from the ongoing action by the electricity department, which has been cutting cables due to unpaid charges for using electricity poles.
“High Court has asked the petitioner cable operators association if they deposit 10-20% of the arrears before the government, after which the authorities will consider their concerns. The counsel for the petitioner association has sought time to take instructions from their client, and the matter has been adjourned for next week,” said advocate general Devidas Pangam.
The Goa government has strongly opposed the plea of the cable operators, arguing that a substantial amount remains unpaid for the usage of electricity poles.
With the petitioner’s counsel requesting time to consult their client regarding the deposit, the High Court has scheduled the next hearing for the following week.
