Kottayam, Feb 28: In a heartbreaking incident, a woman and her two young daughters ended their lives by jumping in front of a speeding train near their home in Ettumanoor, Kottayam, early Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Shiny (43) and her daughters Aleena (11) and Evana (10). According to officials, the tragic event took place around 5:30 am, and came to light after the loco pilot of the Kottayam–Nilambur Express alerted railway authorities and the police.

The loco pilot reported seeing three people on the tracks and repeatedly sounding the horn, but they did not move away. CCTV footage from a nearby location helped police confirm their identities.

Shiny, a nurse by profession, was undergoing divorce proceedings with her husband, Noby, and was staying at her parents’ home with her daughters. She also has a son studying at a sports school in Ernakulam.

On Friday morning, Shiny and her daughters left home, saying they were going to church for morning mass, but instead, they headed towards the railway tracks.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Shiny was struggling to find a job, which may have contributed to the tragic decision. Police have registered a case of unnatural death, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
