Mangaluru: Yenepoya organises programme on National Science Day

Mangaluru, Mar 1: As a part of the National Science Day, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) organised the programme on February 28. The event was graced by pro-vice-chancellor Dr Shripathi Rao B H, chief guest Dr Alexander Hankey (professor Emeritus, MIT-World Peace University, Pune), controller of Examinations Dr Nandish B T, director R&D Dr Rekha P D, assistant registrar Dr Afreem Shabbir, deputy director YRC Dr Yashodhara Bhandari, convener Dr Ranajith Das and finance officer Ameer Bava Ahmed.

The welcome address was given by the convener Dr Ranajith Das, who emphasised the pressing need for discussions on youth empowerment, mental health, the metaverse, and the increasing trend of migration among Indian youth. He stressed that open forums are essential in addressing these challenges and fostering solutions for India's progress.

Chief guest address was given by Dr Alexander Hankey, who stressed the need for holistic and integrative approach and also commended the efforts of Indians in the global growth. This year the prestigious awards of best researcher were given to a total of 31 faculty members of constituent units of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University). To promote student research, the awards were extended to undergraduate, postgraduate and Phd scholars as well.

The best research department awards were also given to 1st place department of Public Health Dentistry, Yenepoya Dental College, 2nd place department of Forensic Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College and third place was shared by department of Biochemistry, Yenepoya Medical College, department of Pharmacognosy, Yenepoya Pharmacy College and Research Centre.

The top performers were given special appreciation awards in both the researcher and department categories. Centre for ethics, department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, department of Prosthodontics and department of Pharmaceutics. Dr Nandish B T controller of examination announced the awards to all the winners.

There were quiz, debate and e-poster competitions held on account of the NSD and the awards were announced by Dr Soujanya Kaup.

The citations of the Dr M Vijayakumar, honourable vice chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Dr Gangadhara Somayaji, registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and Dr Rekha P D, director, research and development cell were read out to the audience for their contributions towards the science by Dr Yashodhar Bhandary, deputy director, Yenepoya Research Centre.

Dr B H Sripathi Rao, in his presidential address, lauded the efforts of the faculty and students but also reminded all to strive hard to continuously for the university.

The vote of thanks was given by Dr Imran Pasha M, reader, department of Public Health Dentistry, Yenepoya Dental College.

The masters of ceremony of the programme were Dr Yuvaraj and Punya from Yenepoya Research Centre (YRC).
