Srinagar, Mar 2: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam police have booked four hardcore drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. The accused have been lodged in different district jails across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to an official statement, the Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir) issued PIT-NDPS Act warrants against four habitual drug peddlers, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Khan from Gudder, Naseer Ahmad Shan from Kilam, Tariq Ahmad Rather from Yamrach, and Ghulam Nabi Lone from Rambhama in Kulgam district.

“The warrants were executed successfully, and the accused have been shifted to district jails in Udhampur, Poonch, Kathua, and Rajouri. The action was taken after compiling material records, dossiers, and other related documents, which were submitted by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam.
"This decisive move highlights the commitment of Kulgam police to eliminating drug trafficking and abuse. The detention of these repeat offenders under the PIT-NDPS Act serves as a strong message to those involved in the drug trade," the statement added.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on drug smugglers, believing that the illegal drug trade not only pushes youth into addiction but also funds terrorism in the region.
In addition to arresting drug traffickers, authorities have been attaching properties of those involved in smuggling, based on prima facie evidence linking their assets to illicit drug proceeds.
Most of these property seizures have taken place in South Kashmir, a region that previously had a high presence of terrorist activities before the abrogation of Article 370 and the implementation of direct Central rule in J&K.
With these continuous efforts, the police aim to eliminate the menace of drug abuse and its connection to terror funding, ensuring a safer and more secure Kashmir.
