Mangaluru, March 2: Alpha’s kick-off event on March 2 at St Lawrence Church witnessed more than 50 enthusiastic and engaged participants. As part of the Lent season, the Jesus Youth of Bondel Church announced the start of the Alpha programme, which was previously held at Fathima Retreat House, Bejai Church.
Alpha introduces concepts about life, faith, and God, and it is running across 160+ countries in over 100 languages. More than 30 million people have participated in the programme over the years.
The first session, also known as the Alpha celebration, invites people to experience the format of the 14-week programme. Rohith Castelino, the Mangaluru coordinator for the Alpha programme, welcomed the participants and kickstarted the journey for over 50 people.
Dr Suraj Noronha, Manoj Chacko, Juliet Dilma, George, Veronica, Iada, Jerin and Jisin administered the programme through small group discussions, making the participants comfortable and sticking to the theme of fun, food, and fellowship.
The first session introduced the concept of “Is there more to life than this?” and discussed some of the evidence for God’s existence. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, the parish priest, expressed his joy at seeing a room full of participants and discussed the importance of the programme and why it is essential to know and experience Jesus.
The programme ended with lunch and testimonies from previous Alpha participants, sharing how Alpha has made a difference in their lives. All participants expressed their positive experiences and their interest in completing the 14-week journey.
Next week’s topic is "Who is Jesus?" is scheduled for March 9 at 11 am at St Lawrence Church Bondel.
Alpha is for everyone — whether one is a working professional, single, married, retired, or a housewife. Many of us have questions about life’s purpose, the existence of God, and faith in general. Alpha is an opportunity to get answers to the biggest questions in life. Those interested can join the programme next week and start their journey!
