New Delhi, Mar 3: Syed Naseeruddin Chishti, chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council and a descendant of revered Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s thoughts on Sufism, calling them “amazing” and emphasizing that a majority of Muslims support his leadership and vision for India’s progress.

Chishti highlighted PM Modi’s long-standing connection with Sufi traditions. “Even as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, he had an affinity for Sufi saints. His participation in the Jahan-e-Khusro 2025 festival sends a positive message,” he said.

PM Modi, who attended the Sufi music festival at Sundar Nursery in Delhi on Friday, extended Ramzan greetings and described Islam as a religion of brotherhood. He also praised legendary Sufi poet Amir Khusro, echoing his description of India as a “garden of heaven.”

Chishti was particularly impressed by Modi’s understanding of Sufism. “He has studied it well and quoted Amir Khusro’s verses beautifully. The Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb that Sufi saints have always promoted is about love, peace, and unity,” he added.

On the perception of Muslims towards PM Modi, Chishti asserted, “The mindset has changed. Muslims stand with PM Modi and the Central government. He is the Prime Minister of all 140 crore Indians, and under his leadership, India is emerging as a global power.”

Backing Modi’s governance approach, he endorsed the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ slogan, rejecting claims that the government discriminates against Muslims. “Development schemes have benefitted everyone equally, and progress has been rapid over the last decade,” he noted.

Chishti also dismissed narratives that Muslims oppose PM Modi. “Some people try to create this perception, but Indian Muslims are sensible and responsible. They stand for the unity and integrity of the country.”

Urging more engagement, he encouraged PM Modi to attend more Muslim community events. “This will help break misconceptions and strengthen trust. I am confident he will continue to connect with Muslims openly,” he concluded.
