Kolar, Mar 3: At least four people, including a two-year-old child, lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Karnataka’s Kolar district on Monday morning, with four others sustaining injuries. The crash occurred on the recently inaugurated Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway.
The victims were identified as 45-year-old Mahesh, two-year-old Udvita, and 60-year-old Ratnamma, who were traveling in an Innova car. The identity of the deceased bike rider remains unknown. The injured—Sushmita, Viruta, Sujata, and Sunil—were rushed to a private hospital in Kolar for treatment.
According to police, the victims hailed from Kammasandra village near KGF in Kolar district. They were returning to their village from Bengaluru when their vehicle collided with a bike near Kuppanahalli in Bangarapet taluk. The impact of the crash resulted in the immediate death of all four victims. Preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding was the main cause of the accident.

This tragic incident adds to a series of fatal accidents in Karnataka in recent weeks. On Saturday, five devotees lost their lives in Chamarajanagar district after their car collided head-on with a truck near Chikkindewadi village. The victims, including two women, were on their way to the Male Mahadeshwara Hills pilgrimage site. The crash was so severe that their car overturned multiple times into an adjacent agricultural field, killing all five occupants on the spot. Police suspect overspeeding played a role in the tragedy.
Earlier, on February 6, another devastating accident claimed the lives of five family members, including three children, in Karnataka’s Yadgir district. The incident occurred when a Kalyan Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKSRTC) bus rammed into their bike from behind while they were traveling from Surapura to Tinthani. Three people, including two children, died instantly, while the other two succumbed to their injuries while being taken to the hospital.
In a separate series of accidents on January 22, at least 14 people, including three students, were killed and 25 others injured in two different incidents in Karnataka’s Karwar and Raichur districts.
The alarming rise in fatal road accidents across the state highlights the urgent need for stricter traffic enforcement and enhanced road safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.
