Guwahati, Mar 4: A video clip featuring Prajoyeeta Kashyap, daughter of former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, assaulting a driver has gone viral on social media. The footage, reportedly recorded within the high-security MLA Hostel premises in Dispur, shows Kashyap verbally abusing the man before striking him with a slipper while others look on.

Following the video’s circulation, Kashyap defended her actions, alleging that the driver had been harassing her for an extended period. "He has been working for our family for a long time, but he is often intoxicated and passes inappropriate comments at me. We tried to reason with him, but today he crossed all limits by pounding on my door," she stated.

When questioned about why she had not reported the matter to the police, Kashyap avoided a direct response, stating that in such cases, women are often subjected to blame. She also refrained from clarifying whether the driver was a government employee or personally hired by the family, instead raising concerns about women's safety in public and private spaces.

Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, a two-time Chief Minister of Assam (1985-1990, 1996-2001) and former president of the Asom Gana Parishad, no longer serves as an MLA but continues to reside in the MLA Hostel with his family.
