Panaji, Mar 5: Actress Ayesha Takia has spoken out following the arrest of her husband, businessman Farhan Azmi, in Goa, describing the ordeal as a "night of horror." Farhan was booked by Goa Police on Monday for allegedly causing a disturbance in Candolim over rash driving.

Taking to Instagram, Ayesha alleged that Farhan and their son were subjected to intense bullying by local residents, who reportedly tormented them for hours. She claimed that despite calling the police for protection, her husband ended up being charged instead.

"It was a night of horror for our family up until this morning… My husband and son were brutally bullied and scared for their life as local Goan goons mobbed, threatened, and tormented them for hours," she wrote.

Ayesha further stated that the hostility was fueled by anti-Maharashtra sentiments. "They repeatedly cursed Farhan and my son for being from Maharashtra and having a big car," she alleged, expressing shock over the turn of events.

According to Hindustan Times, the incident occurred when Farhan was driving a luxury SUV in Candolim. Locals accused him of rash driving and confronted him, prompting Farhan to call the police for help. He also reportedly mentioned possessing a licensed firearm.

Upon reaching the spot, the police were initially prevented from taking Farhan to the station due to resistance from the locals. Eventually, both parties were brought to Calangute police station.

North Goa Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal stated, “Both parties involved in the altercation were given the opportunity to file complaints but refused to do so." However, since the incident caused a public disturbance, a state-initiated complaint was registered by the police.

Ayesha claimed that they possess video and CCTV evidence to support their case. “We have video proof and evidence, including CCTV footage, which will be shared with competent authorities in due course of time. We believe in the justice of the system and our Indian courts,” she asserted.

Farhan Azmi, son of politician Abu Azmi, has been married to Ayesha Takia since 2009. The couple has a son, Mikhail, born in 2013.
