Bangalore: BJP Plans Backward Classes Meet on Feb 3

Bangalore, Jan 15 (DHNS): The Backward Classes Cell of the BJP will convene a meeting of leaders of the backward classes in the city on February 3 to draw an action plan to oppose the UPA government’s  move to provide 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities within the 27 per cent reservation for other backward classes (OBCs).

Speaking at a meeting of the BJP Backward Classes Cell in Bangalore on Saturday, the party’s State President K S Eshwarappa said the February 3 meeting will serve as a platform for leaders from various BC communities to unite and  fight against the UPA’s government decision.

“The 4.5 sub-quota will eat into OBCs’ share of 27 per cent. This is not acceptable as it will render injustice to millions of OBCs in the country. The move also infringes upon the constitutional right of OBCs for reservation in employment and education,” Eshwarappa said.

He said his party was ready to even take a delegation of OBC leaders to New Delhi to submit a memorandum to the President opposing the UPA’s government decision.

“We have to show our strength and ensure that sub-quota within the OBC quota is not implemented at any cost. We should be prepared to hit the streets to send the message that we cannot be taken for granted,” Eshwarappa said. The BJP leader said massive protests would be held in Bangalore if the UPA government does not withdraw its decision.
