Dubai, Jan 15 (Emirates 24 x 7): An Asian man and his daughter were found dead inside their apartment in Dubai while his wife was in critical condition after slashing her veins in an apparent mass suicide, a senior police officer said on Sunday.
Police found the man hanged by the ceiling in his flat and his little daughter dead in her room without any immediate signs that caused her death.
The man’s wife was found in the bathroom screaming hysterically after slashing her veins and hospital sources said she was in critical condition.
“We are investigating the motives behind this mass suicide,” said Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, head of the Criminal Investigation Department.
According to neighbours of the family that lived in Flat No.3 on the second floor of Building No. 44 behind Al Mussalla Tower near Old Pakistan Consulate area, Rijesh and his six-year-old daughter Avanti were found dead in the apartment after relatives failed to contact them on their mobile phones or land line.
Sreesha is recovering in hospital. The couple were in their thirties.
“We are shocked. They went to see DSF fireworks. Yesterday night, they went to a nearby grocery and bought milk, bread and other daily necessities,” said a neighbour.
The family had been living in the same apartment for more than four years and neighours and friends could not see any reason for their suicide.
“A suicide note has been found. We heard screams from the apartment in the morning. Rijesh was found dead, hanging at the end of a red plastic rope from the ceiling fan. We don’t know the reason for their suicide or even if it is a suicide.
The family appeared to be quite happy,” one of the neighbours said.
Bur Dubai police is guarding the building. The bodies have been removed.
Meanwhile, another neighbour said: "Bur Dubai Police came to the building after relatives suspected that something was wrong with the family. Some neighbours told relatives that they heard screams from the flat and so the relatives started enquiring.
Also the six-year old child did not turn up for her daily tuition class. We called the police and the room was broken open to find the man hanging from the ceiling fan.
There was no response from the mobile phone of Rijesh and the family’s land phone was kept in the engaged position."
According to one of deceased's relative, Rijesh was working in a Dubai Airport Free Zone company and had swtiched over to National Panasonic a few months ago.
His wife is working for Al Riyami Group of Companies.
Their child was a student of Our Own Indian School, Dubai. They said the family did not seem to have any problems.
“Recently Rijesh had gone to India, purchased a new vehicle and started building a house. He came back after laying the foundation of his house,” a relative said.
Many distressed Indians in the UAE have killed themselves, the latest case being reported from Ras Al Khaimah, where a full family committed suicide due to financial problems.
The reason for the latest suicide is yet to be officially released.

Tue, Feb 14 2012It is extremely painful when people resort to this way of ending ones life..the child being innocent ...the parents probably in a situation we may not understand...this only happens when one cannot handle life anymore...wished they have resorted to counselling...
We offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family.

Tue, Jan 17 2012Sad to hear such incident. Guys don't jump to conclusions. There might be some TRUE happening behind this. Poor kid lost her life and the Mother will be blamed (if she is not the one behind this scene). The real truth will not be revealed. So may the souls rest in peace. Life is great and we have to live to the fullest.

Tue, Jan 17 2012Dear Jayant, are you really not being able to find a job or is it that you are not finding a job that matches your qualifications or your salary desires? There is no harm in beginnning small suicide is never the answer and killing an innocent one is a sin.if the man was upset with his friend, he could have argued with him, why kill his own daughter who I understand loved her papa so much

Mon, Jan 16 2012Dear friends, we have so many religious groups around us preaching dos and don'ts but none of these groups seem to be either counseling people in desperation or extending moral or financial helping hand.

Sun, Jan 15 2012Very sad moment, this might really disturb every Indian and especially those in the UAE. What to do we all Indian the biggest problem with us is the EGO, though we never accept it, we just want to be different and show to others even when we get in to a small restaurant, what and to whom we are trying to show and prove?? In this case, what ever the reason, I am sure the effective governance at that country would def bring out the facts unlike in India where this can take ages. Whatever the actual reason the lady who survived needs to be punished to the maximum if found guilty of killing such a poor child who is only 6 years old, this in fact a shock for me how could some one kill innocent face like the one here. Sad, very sad.

Sun, Jan 15 2012ADDING A NOTE TO MY PREVIOUS MESSAGE.
WHEN IN DESPAIR THERE ARE THREE SOLUTIONS
1. EASY ONE - DIE
2. LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT - FACE IT. SIT IN JAIL IF REQUIRED. SO MANY BIG PEOPLE HAVE SPENT TIME THERE. WHY NOT SHOW SOME SOLIDARITY. AFTER ALL THAT IS THE ONLY PLACE IN GULF THAT GIVES FREE FOOD, SHELTER, FREE MEDICARE & EVEN SALARY
3. MOST CHALLENGING - RUN BEFORE ANYONE CAN IMAGINE TO CATCH YOU. THEY SAY THE FASTEST IS BETTER THAN THE STRONGEST.
ALL IN ALL DO NOT TAKE YOUR OWN LIFE OR YOUR DEAR ONES. THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUES.
BETTER BE SHAMEFUL FOR SOME TIME THAN DEAD.

Sun, Jan 15 2012Reason for the suicide is still not known.Family didn't face any financial problems according to report in Daiji.(neighbours and friends info). Then what might be the reason ? 1. Health problem to anyone ? 2.Serious misunderstanding? 3.Affair ?(not possible).Whatever be the reason..this incident shocked me and disturbed me very much.

Sun, Jan 15 2012This incident can be one of the Painful effects of Recession. The abnormal boom of 2006 - 2008 created a hype beyond imagination. As a part of this boom and also having tasted the recession before moving on to greener pastures, I have felt the grief within when having extended level of expectation and life style, it is too difficult to scale down. Further, many had over committed beyond their capacity with over optimistic projections of ones life. However, later when incentives stop and in some cases reduction in Salary and even loss of job, the mental agony is unexplainable. The only solace is to get help, guidance and moral support. Everyone has this source, yet some kind of ego can destroy the reasoning and hence we stay aloof, which can lead to severe mental depression and worse case scenario - Suicide!. Meditation can help, need to sit along with family, freinds and take a pragmatic decision. Also lesson to all of us not to over stretch ourselves and keep some sort of contigency plan in store back home in our respective native lands.

Sun, Jan 15 2012A very sad incident indeed. Let the souls rest in peace.
This type of cases occur every now and then.
It is hard to see any signs before people succumb to momentary decisions like this.
If at all they think for a little more time probably such step may not be taken.
I feel sad for the little one and even more for the lady whose loss can never be imagined.
