Mumbai, Mar 6: International kabaddi referee and Chhatrapati Shivaji awardee Jay A Shetty Shimanturu has been elected as the new president of the Bunts Nyaya Mandali, Mumbai. The organization was established 25 years ago with the aim of providing legal assistance to the Bunts community in Mumbai and its suburbs.

Shetty, who is also the secretary of the South Kanara Sports Club and Karnataka Sporting Association, was elected during the annual general meeting of the Bunts Nyaya Mandali held on February 22 at the Buntara Sangha Annex Hall in Kurla East. Outgoing president and advocate Prakash L Shetty Kadandale felicitated him with a bouquet.

A retired officer of the Bank of Maharashtra, Shetty has previously served as the general secretary of Buntara Sangha Mumbai and the higher education committee, as well as the Matrubhoomi Cooperative Society. Actively involved in various Kannada organizations, he has played a key role in organizing successful sports tournaments in the city. His guidance has been instrumental in the success of the annual sports events conducted by Buntara Sangha.

Shetty has also served as the chief coordinator for two international kabaddi tournaments held in rural areas of Karkala. With extensive experience as both a kabaddi player and referee, he is widely recognized for his fair judgment on the field.

In recognition of his contributions to sports, both Maharashtra and Karnataka governments have honored him with prestigious awards. His family is deeply involved in kabaddi, with his wife and son both being national-level players. The Maharashtra government has awarded the Chhatrapati Shivaji Award to both his wife and son for their achievements in the sport.
