Panaji, Mar 6: A major political controversy has erupted in Goa after former minister and senior BJP leader Pandurang Madkaikar alleged rampant corruption within the government, including claims that a serving minister demanded a bribe of Rs 15-20 lakh. The explosive revelation has led to sharp reactions from state ministers, with demands for the accused minister to be named.

Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho was the first to respond, urging Madkaikar to disclose the minister’s identity and file an official police complaint. Speaking to the media in Panaji, Godinho stated, "In a democracy, one must be cautious while exercising freedom of expression. If there is any truth to these claims, he should take legal action instead of making vague accusations."

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant dismissed suggestions that the allegations were directed at him, firmly stating, "He has not made any allegations against me."

Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate, who shares close ties with Madkaikar, also demanded that the minister in question be named. "If he was truly asked for money, then the concerned minister should step forward and clarify the situation," he added.

Meanwhile, Goa Congress Vice President Sunil Kawthankar has formally written to Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, demanding a CBI investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act and other relevant laws. The Congress has accused the BJP government of shielding corrupt ministers and called for immediate action on Madkaikar’s allegations.

With the controversy gaining momentum, all eyes are now on Madkaikar to reveal the name of the minister involved, while the ruling BJP faces mounting pressure to address the allegations head-on.
