Bhopal, Mar 9: Three doctors were injured after a violent assault by the relatives of a deceased patient at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal. The attack, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, left a junior doctor with a head wound and heightened security concerns within the hospital.
The incident unfolded after a patient, Dolly Bai, succumbed to her illness in the intensive care unit (ICU) around 1 a.m. Enraged by her passing, family members and bystanders lashed out at the on-duty doctors. The situation escalated further when armed individuals reportedly joined the assault, creating panic among hospital staff and patients.

Over ten doctors were present in the ICU when the attack occurred. Video footage of the incident, which has since surfaced on social media, shows the chaos that unfolded.
Dr. R.P. Kaushal, Dean-in-Charge of Gandhi Medical College, formally reported the attack to the police, and a complaint was lodged at Kohfiza police station. Law enforcement officials are currently identifying the suspects based on video evidence and have assured that appropriate action will be taken.
Although none of the injured doctors sustained critical wounds, the attack has left the hospital staff shaken. In response, the doctors have written to the Chief Medical Officer, urging immediate reinforcement of security measures. They highlighted the growing fear among medical personnel due to repeated instances of violence.
Kuldeep Gupta, President of the Junior Doctors' Association (JUDA), condemned the attack, calling it an unfortunate and recurring issue. He pointed out that just days ago, a female doctor’s car was vandalized, and suspicious individuals were spotted near the hospital at night. Despite repeated appeals for better security, such incidents continue to take place.
The attack has reignited the long-standing demand for stricter protection protocols for healthcare professionals, with medical staff now pressing authorities for swift and decisive action.
