Mangaluru, Mar 9: Srinivas University’s City Campus, Pandeshwara, witnessed a vibrant celebration of International Women’s Day, bringing together multiple institutes in a collective tribute to women’s rights, equality, and empowerment on March 8.
The event was jointly organised by the Institute of Management & Commerce, Institute of Port, Shipping and Logistics Management, Institute of Physiotherapy, Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism and Institute of Education, highlighting the spirit of unity and respect for women across various fields.













The day commenced with a poster design competition, where participants creatively expressed the theme —"Rights, Equality, Empowerment." The competition showcased artistic brilliance and deep reflections on the significance of gender equality in today’s society.
In the afternoon session, "Accelerate Action"—a self-defence session—was conducted by Reena Ranjith, a black belt Dan 4 and an authorised karate & self-defence instructor. She, along with her students, demonstrated essential self-defence techniques, empowering women with the confidence and skills to ensure their safety. The session was an inspiring reminder of the importance of self-protection and resilience in everyday life.
As the celebrations continued into the evening, a special fitness event, "Empower Her: Women’s Day fitness groove," was organised. This dynamic workout session encouraged women to prioritise their health and well-being through fun and engaging exercises. The session aimed to highlight the importance of fitness in leading a confident and empowered life. Participants enthusiastically took part, making it a high-energy and motivating experience.
Adding a delightful surprise to the celebrations, hotel management students, along with all male faculty members, participated in preparing a magnificent 50 kg cake as a special token of appreciation for the women teaching and non-teaching staff. This heart-warming gesture symbolized gratitude and respect for the contributions of women in the university. The cake-cutting ceremony was a joyous moment, with laughter and applause filling the air.
The event was conducted under the guidance of honourable chancellor Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao and honourable pro chancellor Dr A Srinivas Rao, whose unwavering support and vision continue to inspire such empowering initiatives.
The celebration was graced by Dr Venkatesh Amin (dean, Institute of management & commerce), Dr Sonia Noronha (dean, Institute of Port, Shipping and Logistics Management), Dr Trishala Noronha (dean, Institute of Physiotherapy), Prof Prashanth Prabhu (dean, Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism) and Dr Padmanabha CH (dean, Institute of Education). Faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students actively participated, making the event a grand success.
