Khargone, Mar 15: In a shocking and distressing incident, stray dogs were seen carrying the remains of a newborn baby within the premises of the Khargone District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh, police confirmed on Saturday. This marks the second such incident in just three days, raising serious concerns over hospital security and the growing menace of stray dogs.

According to eyewitnesses, the horrifying sight unfolded around 3:30 p.m. when the dogs were spotted dragging the infant’s body, which was severely mutilated with missing limbs and a severed neck. Authorities suspect that the stray dogs may have consumed parts of the body.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rohit Lakhare told media persons that a detailed investigation is underway. "We have summoned all hospital records of baby deliveries over the past week and are reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas," he said. Hospital staff and doctors are also being questioned to determine how the newborn’s body ended up in an open area.

Dismissing the possibility of foeticide or abortion, officials confirmed that the baby was fully developed at birth. Initial findings indicate that the infant was likely delivered in the hospital’s maternity ward and later abandoned by a family member.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, Jaitapur police rushed to the scene and secured the remains in the post-mortem room. A panel of doctors is set to conduct an autopsy to uncover further details.

This incident follows a similar case in Rewa, where a stray dog was seen carrying the body of a newborn with its lower limbs missing. Authorities suspect that the body may have been dug up from a cremation site near the Beehar River.

Following these back-to-back cases, local police and hospital staff have alerted municipal authorities to take immediate action against the rising threat posed by stray dogs in the area.
