Mangaluru, Mar 18: A large branch of a Peepal tree, which provided shade to the public near a signal in the city, suddenly broke and fell on Monday evening, injuring three people who were standing underneath it.
The incident occurred when the branch unexpectedly snapped and fell. At the time, several people, including women and students, were waiting for a bus at the location. Three individuals sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital.

Fire and emergency personnel from Pandeshwar rushed to the scene and cleared the fallen branch. The incident briefly disrupted vehicular movement in the area. Additionally, electric wires beneath the tree snapped, and sheets recently installed at a nearby auto-rickshaw stand were damaged.
Local residents complained that they had previously requested authorities to trim some branches of the tree, but no action was taken, leading to this incident.
Upon learning about the incident while attending an assembly session in Bengaluru, MLA Vedavyas Kamath immediately contacted former corporator Poornima and instructed her to visit the site. He also called the deputy commissioner and Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner, directing them to cover the medical expenses of the injured and ensure the swift removal of the fallen branch.
