Mumbai, Jan 16 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Monday pared its losses to provisionally close 45 points higher.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,086.74 points, closed at 16,199.6 points (provisional), 44.98 points or 0.28 percent up from its previous close at 16,154.62 points.
The Sensex had fallen more than 117 points lower to an intra-day low of 16,037.60 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also managed to close in the green at 4,878.65 points -- up 0.26 percent or 12.65 points from its previous close.
Broader markets also moved up from the lows of the day. The BSE 500 index closed on a flat note.
