Udupi, Mar 19: "Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal is marching towards availing autonomous status and it is in its final stage" declared Rathnakumar, secretary of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust on Wednesday, March 19.
Addressing the media on the development and activities taking place in the institution in the current academic year, Rathnakumar said, "We are in the final stage of availing the autonomous status for our institution. The expert committee has already visited the institution and has held various rounds of discussions with the students, alumni, staff and other stakeholders. A keen evaluation has been done by the committee and the report is submitted to the University grants commission (UGC). The UGC has also given a positive opinion about the report and we are in positive hopes that soon it will recommend the state government for granting autonomous status. By June end we will get autonomous status. This status will enable us to conduct the examinations, decide upon the syllabus, prepare students to industry ready and necessary changes. We will become an institution preparing real engineers. Our goal is to be a model autonomous college in undivided Dakshina Kannada".

"Both the state and central governments support is commendable in our growth. In the academic year we have received around Rs 1 crore worth various scholarships from various schemes of the state government. A clear roadmap is established for the institution before we reach 25 years and availing the university status is also another goal which we are going to achieve soon. A lot of work has to be done before achieving this for which we are working towards collectively" he added.
