Bengaluru, March 19: The State Police department has suspended five police officers after a video surfaced showing them playing cards inside the Wadi police station in Kalaburagi district. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, has caused widespread outrage.
The suspended officers include assistant sub-inspector Mohammad Mia, head constables Nagaraj, Saibanna, Imam, and constable Nagabhushan. Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police (SP) Addur Srinivasulu issued the suspension orders. Additionally, a notice has been served to sub-inspector Tirumalesh, seeking an explanation regarding the incident.

The officers were allegedly seen gathering on the first floor of the police station during duty hours to play cards, with two officers playing while still in uniform. The seven-second video showing the officers indulging in the game has caused an uproar among the public, proving to be a major embarrassment for the Congress government in Karnataka, especially since it emerged during the ongoing Assembly session.
The incident took place in the constituency of RDPR, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge, who represents the Chittapur seat and also serves as the in-charge minister of Kalaburagi.
Reacting to the incident, Minister Kharge said: “Following the viral video showing police personnel engaged in gambling at the Wadi police station in Kalaburagi district, the concerned officers have been suspended, and a notice has been issued to the station's Sub-Inspector.”
Kharge further emphasised that once the video came to his attention, he immediately directed the district Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough inquiry and take necessary action. It was later revealed that the incident had taken place several months ago.
“Our government will not tolerate any disciplinary violations by department staff or officials. There is no room for negligence in public service and law enforcement,” Kharge added.
