Bijapur, Mar 20: In a major anti-Naxal operation, security forces eliminated 18 Naxalites in an intense encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday. A policeman also lost his life in the gunfight, which took place during a search operation in the dense forest region.

According to police sources, the encounter was part of a coordinated offensive launched by security personnel based on intelligence inputs about Naxal movements. The gunbattle erupted as forces closed in on a heavily armed Naxal group, leading to a fierce exchange of fire.

Officials confirmed the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter site. The deceased policeman, who displayed exceptional bravery, has been identified, and tributes are pouring in for his sacrifice in the fight against left-wing extremism.

Security has been heightened in the area, and search operations continue to ensure no remnants of the group escape. This marks one of the most significant anti-Naxal victories in recent times, dealing a severe blow to insurgent activities in the region.
