New Delhi, Mar 22: The Indian government has strongly objected to China's recent move to establish two new counties, parts of which fall in Ladakh, and has lodged a "solemn" protest through diplomatic channels.

Minister of State for external affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, reaffirmed that India has never accepted China’s ‘illegal occupation’ of its territory. He stated that the creation of these counties does not alter India's firm stance on its sovereignty over the region nor does it legitimize China's forcible occupation.

“The Government of India is aware of the announcement made by China regarding the so-called establishment of two new counties in Hotan prefecture. Parts of these counties fall in India's Union Territory of Ladakh,” he said.

India has formally conveyed its strong objection to the development through diplomatic channels. Singh also emphasized that the government is committed to enhancing infrastructure in border areas to ensure economic growth while addressing strategic and security needs.

He further assured that India remains vigilant and continues to take necessary measures to safeguard its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
