Hyderabad, Mar 24: A 23-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after jumping from a moving train to escape an alleged sexual assault attempt, the Government Railway Police (GRP) said on Monday.

The incident occurred on the evening of March 22 while the woman was traveling alone in the ladies' coach of an MMTS (Multi Modal Transport Service) train from Secunderabad to Medchal. In her statement to the police, she recounted that after two other women deboarded at Alwal railway station, a man, approximately 25 years old, approached her and demanded sexual favors. When she resisted, he allegedly attempted to assault her, prompting her to leap from the train in fear for her safety.

Passersby found the injured woman and rushed her to a government hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment for head, chin, right hand, and waist injuries. Authorities have assured that her condition is stable and she remains under medical observation.

Following the victim’s complaint, police registered a case under Sections 75 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage a woman's modesty) and 131 (use of criminal force) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the accused. Four special teams have been formed to track him down, utilizing CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and forensic analysis, GRP Secunderabad Superintendent of Police G. Chandana Deepti confirmed. The victim has expressed her willingness to identify the perpetrator if she sees him.

The woman, who works in the private sector, had traveled to Secunderabad that day to get her mobile phone repaired.
