Mangaluru, Mar 25: Observation of World Tuberculosis Day was jointly organized by the Dakshina Kannada District administration, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayath, department of health & family welfare, District Tuberculosis control officer's office, department of Nursing Foundation, Yenepoya Nursing College, Deralakatte, on March 24 at Yenepoya Deemed to be University. The programme commenced with a rally.
The event was presided over by Dr M Vijayakumar, vice-chancellor of Yenepoya Deemed to be University. Dr H R Thimmayya, district health and family welfare officer, Dakshina Kannada, inaugurated the programme and acknowledged the efforts of all people involved in eradicating tuberculosis. Dr K S Gangadhara Somayaji, registrar of Yenepoya Deemed to be University, and Dr Leena K C, principal of Yenepoya Nursing College, were present as chief guests. Prof Shashikumar Jawadagi, HoD, department of Nursing Foundation and Dr Hezil Reema Barboza, associate professor, department of Nursing Foundation were also present.


All the taluk health officers, medical officers, public and primary health center health workers attended the programme.
During the event, certificates of appreciation were distributed to tuberculosis-free gram panchayats and those who provided nutritional food packets to tuberculosis patients.
Yenepoya Nursing College students created awareness about tuberculosis through mime, skit, and dance. Approximately 300 people participated in the programme.
Dr Khateeja Dilshad M P, district tuberculosis control officer, delivered the welcome and introductory speech. Jyoti K Ulepadi, district health education officer, gave the vote of thanks, and Pavitra, assistant professor, Yenepoya Nursing College, compered the event.
