Ranchi, Mar 26: Former Zila Parishad member and senior Jharkhand BJP leader Anil Tiger was shot dead in broad daylight at Kanke Chowk in Ranchi on Wednesday, triggering panic among locals. The incident took place around 4 p.m. when two assailants on a motorcycle entered Thakur Hotel, where Tiger was sitting, and shot him in the head. The sudden gunfire caused chaos, with people fleeing the scene in fear.
Kanke police rushed to the spot upon receiving information and immediately took Tiger to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police acted swiftly and arrested the shooter shortly after the attack. While the exact motive behind the murder is still under investigation, initial reports suggest that a land dispute could be a possible reason. The accused is currently being interrogated for further details.

The killing has sparked widespread outrage, with local residents gathering at Kanke Chowk to demand justice. Police officials have begun questioning witnesses and collecting evidence to piece together the sequence of events. Ranchi Rural SP Sumit Agarwal confirmed the incident and assured that a thorough investigation was underway.
The attack took place while Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta was conducting a video conference with district SPs regarding law and order in the state. He called the murder “unfortunate” and stressed that the police must ensure criminals are brought to justice to prevent such incidents in the future.
This killing follows the recent attack on businessman Bipin Mishra in Ranchi, which the police claim to have solved with the arrest of the perpetrators. The rising crime rate has led to strong criticism from the opposition, with Ranchi BJP MLA CP Singh lashing out at the state government, stating that Jharkhand’s law and order have collapsed and questioning how long the state will continue to witness such violent incidents.
