Kathua, Mar 27: A fresh round of firing erupted between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Wednesday, as the ongoing counter-terror operation intensified.

The clash occurred in the Rajbagh sector, where security forces had earlier engaged terrorists suspected to have infiltrated from across the border. Officials reported that the heavily armed militants opened fire on search teams, triggering a fierce gunbattle.

Elite units of the Indian Army, J&K Police, and paramilitary forces have been deployed to neutralize the terrorists, with drones and sniffer dogs assisting in the search. Officials suspect that the militants may be part of a newly activated sleeper cell, attempting to disrupt peace in the region.

Authorities have placed border villages on high alert, urging residents to remain indoors. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the encounter site to prevent the terrorists from escaping.

Security officials maintain that the operation will continue until all threats are eliminated.
