New Delhi, Mar 29: President Droupadi Murmu has emphasized the moral responsibility of safeguarding the environment for future generations, urging citizens to adopt an eco-conscious lifestyle to ensure a cleaner and healthier planet.
Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day National Conference on 'Environment – 2025', President Murmu underscored the need for sustainable development, stating that balancing environmental conservation with modern progress is both a challenge and an opportunity.
"It is our moral obligation to pass on a clean and thriving environment to our children. To achieve this, we must embrace an environmentally sensitive lifestyle, ensuring that we not only preserve nature but also enhance it," she remarked.

The President urged people to consider environmental well-being as seriously as they consider their children's education and future careers. "We worry about which schools or colleges our children will attend and what careers they will choose. But we must also ask ourselves: What kind of air will they breathe? Will they have access to clean water? Will they experience the beauty of nature, the sounds of birds, and lush green forests? These questions are as crucial as any economic or social concern," she noted.
Highlighting India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, President Murmu stressed that prosperity must go hand in hand with clean air, water, and greenery to set an example for the world.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT), which organized the conference, was lauded by the President for its pivotal role in environmental governance and climate justice. She praised the tribunal’s landmark decisions, emphasizing their profound impact on public health, quality of life, and the planet’s future.
Calling for collective participation in environmental conservation, President Murmu urged citizens and institutions alike to stay committed to eco-friendly initiatives. She highlighted India’s leadership in global green initiatives, expressing confidence that the country would continue to set exemplary standards in environmental sustainability.
