Shopkeeper’s mosque visit sparks controversy among right-wing groups

Aligarh, Mar 29: A moment of communal harmony has turned into a contentious issue after a Hindu shopkeeper, Sunil Rajani, participated in prayers at a local mosque in the Mamoo Bhanja area. His spontaneous act, captured on video and widely circulated online, has drawn criticism from right-wing groups.

Monu Agarwal, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), condemned Rajani’s participation, labeling it "sacrilegious" and demanding a public apology. He further insisted that Rajani undergo a "shuddhi karan" (purification ceremony) at a temple to atone for his actions.

Following the backlash, Rajani explained that his decision to join the prayers was an impulsive gesture. Confronted by right-wing members after leaving the mosque, he attempted to appease critics by performing a self-purification ritual using ‘Gangajal.’

Despite the uproar, no official complaint has been filed regarding the incident.
